Coaching is NOT to be misunderstood as Therapy
Coaching is not psychotherapy. I am a Professional Certified
Coach, not a licensed therapist. I do not diagnose or treat mental
health issues. I do not provide coaching for individuals seeking
*emotional healing, relief from psychological pain, or experiencing
a serious life crisis.
Coaching can be used concurrently with psychotherapeutic work.
It is not to be used under any circumstances as a substitute for
psychotherapeutic work. When working concurrently, it is of utmost
importance that coaching is endorsed by your therapist. It is
also helpful to let your coach know you are working with a therapist;
thus the coach can suggest what issue would be better handled
in a therapy session than a coaching session and trust you are
getting such therapy issues handled in a timely manner.
A referral to a psychotherapist can be made upon request, or,
you may search for your own at: www.mentalhelp.net.
Coaching is for high functioning, successful individuals
who want to move to the next level in one or more areas of their
personal and/or public lives. The coaching client must be ready,
willing, and capable of taking action to move towards a goal.
Coaching is a serious commitment to make your life extraordinary,
to stretch yourself to the edge of your limits, to discover a
much bigger perspective of yourself and your life!
The coach relates to the client as a partner. A coach does not
relate to the client from a position of an expert, authority,
or healer. It is a co-active partnership that is entirely focused
on the best interest of the client. Coach and client together
choose the focus, format, and desired outcomes for their work.
The client does not relinquish the responsibility for creating
and maintaining these nor does the coach take full responsibility
for them.
Coaching is designed to help clients improve their learning and
performance, gain greater clarity of who they are and what they
stand for, and enhance their quality of life.
The distinction between coaching and psychotherapy can be found
in detail at the International Coach Federation website: www.coachfederation.org.
